We got one

I love Spring.  I love open windows.  We have had the back door open with the screen door locked so fresh air can get in.

Apparently, the door is not sealed at the bottom, and we had a visitor enter on Friday.  He does not sing and/or walk on two legs, so he does not warrant a name.

Jacob looked on Google, and it said to use humane traps.  Sorry, humane went out the window the second that thing entered my kitchen.  I called Ronda, she suggested a trap that I found easily and was inexpensive.

We set two.

When we arrived home tonight this is what we found:

moust-trapped

He was snapped in this one after eating all the bait in the other one.

The package said to un-clip him into the trash and then the trap can be reused, It wasn’t completely dead yet, we threw it away with the mouse.  They are not that expensive, and I really don’t want to touch it any more than necessary.

Jacob wants to put up a warning sign to all mice and spiders that dare to enter our house.  Telling them we can co-exist peacefully outside, but in the house they are not welcome, under penalty of death.

I like to catch the spiders and put them in a jar and see which of them is the strongest!

I need a dress with a zipper

I am totally convinced that I must be a “trophy wife” because he certainly did not marry my for my mind.

Last night I had to run to the store to pick up some “stuff.”  I was really excited because the self-check-outs were open.  I then realized I was missing something.  Something important.  My wallet.

I really do think about using a purse.  I’m just not that kind of girl.  I don’t know quite what that means, but I know that if I used a purse, it would be harder to not have my wallet on me.

I am just glad I was never pulled over.  I certainly do not need a ticket for driving with out a license.

And then upon returning home for real, I closed the car door on my leg.

I’m going to go hang my head in shame now. Again.

On a great note, my blood pressure was 131/80 last night!  Much better than back in August, or was it September?

Three points to whomever can correctly identify the whole quote the title came from, and where I heard it.  Other than Jacob, and any one ought to be able to get it, it is not an inside joke, necessarily.

Pipeline

Jacob is totally in a band!

It is a pvc pipe band.

They are awesome.

For those of our friends and family wishing to see them perform, there are a couple shows that we know they can attend. Some may be close or not so close.  However they are open to those who show up.

Monday, April 6th Pipeline will be at the Galesburg Public Library.  They perform at 10am.

Thursday, April 9th Pipeline will be at the Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library in Canton.  They perform at 2pm.

Tuesday, April 14th Pipeline will be at the Jerseyville Public Library.  They perform at 7pm.

Saturday, April 18th Pipeline will be at the Burlington Public Library.  They will perform at 2pm.

Saturday, May 9th Pipeline will be at the Musser Public Library in Muscatine.  They will perform at 11am.

Monday, May 11th Pipeline will be at the Moline Public Library.  They will perform at 6:30pm.

Be sure to invite your friends and your childrens’ friends as a bigger audience makes for a more enjoyable show, at least Marcia thinks so.  Show up early enough to get a good seat.  We hope to see Many of you at one or some of these shows.

By the way DVDs of their last tour are for sale at each of the shows.  The cost of the DVD is $10 (USD). I know some of you have been wanting to know if this was available.

I love bread

In pretty much any form.  Except probably in a Ruben.

I decided to make some cinnamon rolls and bread yesterday.  It is/was yummy.

Jacob and I had just watched an episode of Throw Down With Bobby Flay about sticky buns, so I decided while I was making cinnamon rolls to make a couple of them in the sticky bun style.  It was delicious!  And not at all full of calories. The sticky buns were about 333 calories each. Here are some pictures of the results.

Regular rolls and cinnamon rolls.  I did make more cinnamon rolls than that, however this is what spilled onto the second pan.

The loaves of bread.   I am so excited that I finally understood how to braid the bread!

Unfortunately, I failed to take a picture of the final product of the sticky buns.  However, I did take a picture of the ramekin that I used to bake it in.

I started with a layer of buttermilk syrup (that we had left over from pancakes) and then a layer of almond slivers.  I then placed the raw cinnamon roll in the dish and baked it just like the rest of the rolls.  Upon removing from the oven turn upside down on plate.  I learned the harder way, that if you let the ramekin set there for a while, the sticky bun keeps the “glaze” and almonds in place, and makes for a nice presentation.

Our story

Marcia decided that we are going to start keeping a family journal.  I think this is a great idea, except she keeps insisting that we can’t actually start it until I write my version of how we met and fell in love and got married. Every time I sit down to start writing that story (and while she won’t believe me, I have started many times), I realize that there needs to be even more back story, and I give up and scrap what I’ve written.

So tonight, I decided to take a different approach and instead of writing a novel, I started writing it in the style of a children’s book. Marcia rejected it for inclusion in the family journal, so here it is:

How we Met

One day in church there was a pretty girl named Marcia.  We skipped a church dance together and walked around outside.  I liked her.  We went back to her apartment and…

played cards.

Then I went on a mission.

Then she went on a mission.

Then I got back.

Then she got back.

Then we dated for like 5 years.

Then she moved away.

And I missed her.

So I asked her to marry me.

She said yes.

And we got married.

And I liked it.

THE END

I wouldn’t look for it in the Scholastic book catalog any time soon.

Dear Insurance Companies

Dear Insurance Companies,

If I wanted to talk to your salesman on the phone, I would have called you. Instead, I went looking for information online, because I wanted to get the information, you know, ONLINE.

Oh, and since you have my address along with my phone number, I would expect that you would figure out that your particular insurance company doesn’t insure ANYTHING in my area before you call me and try to sell me insurance I can’t possibly use.
